Ticks are potential carriers of different pathogens. During a tick bite, these pathogens can be transmitted to the host on which the taking its blood meal. The most well-known tick-borne pathogens are Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato and the tick-borne encephalitis virus. However, ticks can also transmit a number of other pathogens.
